The First Sip

Back To Where It All Began

When Hurricane Mitch devastated Honduras in 1998, George and Molly Greene felt compelled to answer a request to create lifesaving water treatment systems. When the Greenes arrived in Honduras with the systems, they were shocked by the dangerously contaminated water in the communities they visited. Feeling called to combat the global water crisis, the Greenes sold their engineering company and, in 2001, founded Water Mission.

More Together

We’re more than a brand, a charity, and more than an NGO.

Driven by a desire to serve God, we seek to transform lives through hope in Jesus Christ, expressed through life, deed, word, and sign. As Christians, we are responsible for addressing and ending the global water crisis, ensuring that people who lack access to safe water can be filled with living water for their bodies and Living Water for their souls. We are called to be witnesses and serve as a reflection of God’s unconditional love.

Water Mission is a good news story for the 2 billion people worldwide that don’t have safe water. But our story often goes untold. Despite helping around seven million people globally, we’re relatively little known, even in countries with the greatest presence. And where we are well known, we’re little understood.

This website has been created to strengthen and sharpen our brand and make it compelling and relevant in a rapidly changing world, which is where we’d like your help.

Statement of Faith

Water Mission is a Christian engineering ministry providing access to safe water and an opportunity to demonstrate our Christian faith to people in need throughout the world.

Our work is based on the belief that God is concerned about all people's physical and spiritual well-being, and He desires a personal relationship with each of us. In the Old Testament, through the prophet Isaiah, God calls each of us to experience a life that satisfies our deepest longings. He puts it in the metaphorical language of thirsting. “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters…Give ear and come to me, hear me that your soul may live.” (Isaiah 55:1,3)

We believe that God fully revealed Himself to the world in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus spoke as God when He said, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” (John 7:37) Jesus pointed to Himself and promised to quench our spiritual thirst with “living water” if we would put our trust in Him.
